How to become a member of the Flying 20 Club

  1. Complete a Flying 20’s Club Membership Application and submit it to the membership chairman along with the non-refundable application fee of $25. The membership chairman's contact information is listed on the Club Officers page of this website.

NOTE: For times when there are no immediate openings for membership, upon receipt of your application and fee, the membership chairman will assign you the next open position on the waiting list and notify you in writing of your waiting list position. When your position on the waiting list is called you will be contacted by the membership chairman at which time you will have the opportunity to update your application as necessary.

  2. Your completed application will be reviewed by the membership chairman and then presented to the Executive Board for approval. Copies of the following documents must accompany your application:
    1. The front and back sides of a valid United States pilot certificate.
    2. The front and back sides of a valid driver's license.
    3. A current and valid FAA medical certificate.
    4. Your most recent BFR or equivalent log book endorsement.
  3. After being notified of your acceptance into the club, your payment of the $1,000 initiation fee should be provided to the membership chairman or the treasurer. If desired, the payment can be made in two $500 installments. The first installment is due prior to commencing any club check rides. The second installment will be billed in the invoice for your third month of membership.
  4. After the club's receipt of the initiation fee as outlined in paragraph 3, you may schedule your club check out with one of the approved CFI's from the list found under the Info for Pilots tab on the club's website.
  5. New members are required to satisfactorily complete a check ride in one of the Archers with a club approved CFI. At the discretion of the CFI, a ground-based review of the differences of the second Archer may be completed in lieu of an additional check ride.

The Dakota requires a high performance endorsement and a check ride with a club approved CFI.

The check ride endorsement for each airplane shall read as follows:
This is to certify that I have given and that [insert the member’s name] holder of certificate [insert the member’s certificate number]
has satisfactorily completed a Flying 20 Club, Inc. Pilot Proficiency Flight Check Ride,
    in aircraft number
[insert aircraft tail number] on [insert date of flight]
    [insert Certified Flight Instructor’s signature]
[insert Certified Flight Instructor’s certificate number]
[insert Certified Flight Instructor’s certificate expiration date]
    .

The endorsement for a review of the differences of the second Archer shall read as follows:

This is to certify that I have given and that [insert the member’s name] holder of certificate [insert the member’s certificate number]
has satisfactorily completed a review of the differences
    of aircraft number
[insert aircraft tail number] on [insert date of the review]
    [insert Certified Flight Instructor’s signature]
[insert Certified Flight Instructor’s certificate number]
[insert Certified Flight Instructor’s certificate expiration date]
    .

  6. All expenses associated with the check ride are your sole responsibility, including CFI fees and the cost of the airplane at the club's current hourly rate.
  7. The content of the check ride is the responsibility of the individual CFI. Generally, the standards required will exceed those for Private Pilot certification with an emphasis on safety and landing proficiency. If your biennial flight review is not current, a BFR may be completed with a club approved flight instructor as part of the club check ride.
  8. After each club check ride is completed, provide a copy of the log book endorsement to the membership chairman. For each approved airplane, you will be provided with scheduling rights in Schedule Master, the club's on-line scheduling system, subject to the scheduling rules described in the Operating Procedures.
  9. Finally, upon becoming an active member of the club, you will be given keys to all of the club's aircraft. Note that although you will receive keys to all of the airplanes, you may only fly those airplanes for which you have been checked out by a club approved CFI. Violation of this rule will subject the offender to penalties up to and including revocation of club membership.
